Position: Executive Director and Head - Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplantation and VAD Program
Dr. Z.S. Meharwal is an Executive Director of Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery and a member of the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute's founding team of doctors. Dr. Meharwal graduated from King George's Medical College in Lucknow with an MBBS, MS (General Surgery), and M.ch (Cardiothoracic Surgery). He was a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at London's famed King's College Hospital. He has over 30 years of expertise in cardiac surgery and has performed over 30000 procedures, including difficult heart operations.
He is a national pioneer in numerous novel heart procedures. Dr. Meharwal is one of just a few cardiac surgeons who undertake heart transplants and ventricular assist device installation. Dr. Meharwal has extensive experience in teaching and training. At Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, he is the Programme Director of DNB Cardiothoracic Surgery. He has taught numerous cardiac surgeons in India and overseas who are currently practising independently at various centres.
Has been invited to speak as a faculty member in national and international conferences, and has published widely in peer-reviewed national and international publications. Dr. Meharwal has earned several honours, including the President's Award for his contributions to Cardiac Surgery.
Dr. ZS Meharawal has performed approximately 30000 heart operations, the majority of which were complex. He is the author of around 40 peer-reviewed academic publications.
